pajama night

Tonight was Pajama Night -  we all donned our favorite cozy jammies and enjoyed a pancake breakfast and playtime with our friends for our last day at Northwest Toddlers Co-op.  Jack and I went to preschool every Friday morning.  We made some good friends and had lots of fun.  Jack loves teacher Janice, especially when she is leading circle time.  We sang songs, read stories and even did a little dancing.   About a month ago we realized just how carefully Jack has been paying attention as he took on the role of teacher Janice and re-enacted a day at preschool with AMAZING attention to detail.  We went from playtime, to clean-up time, to singing time (where Jack led songs and tickled children just like teacher Janice), to getting hand stamps at the end of the day.

Here it is - the first radish of the summer...

 Jack discovered that he doesn't like to eat radishes - "too zingy" - but they sure are fun to pull out!  

P.S.  The shirt that Jack is wearing in these pictures used to be Stephen's shirt when he was a little boy.  How neat is that?!  Thanks Liz for passing it on to us!

better than christmas

Now that we are having some warmer, dryer spring weather (occasionally) we have been enjoying walks around the neighborhood.  Henry rides in the stroller or on my back and Jack pushes a stuffed friend in his "just my size" stroller.   We have favorite sights along our journeys - the red ball trees, a neighbor's steep driveway, the dog across the alley (will he be out?) and the "sweet 'cuda"(cool car)  that is parked on Dibble.  This past week we hit the jackpot - an EXCAVATOR!!!! Right here on our street!  Jack was intrigued by the closed sidewalk and the giant pile of dirt and in awe of the machine.  We made several visits where Jack explored it from every angle, including the driver's seat.  He could not have been happier.  He excitedly narrated everything he was doing "I'm driving, I'm scooping the grass, I'm scooping that guy..."  We got lots of chuckles and comments from passers-by - I think they were jealous.

Jack had his first visit to the dentist today.  We have been talking it up and he was excited and ready.  Dr. Pichler was very impressed when he called her by name and said he was the best 2 year old patient they had ever seen.   He was curious about everything and especially impressed with the toothbrush and special vacuum they used in his mouth as they "counted" his teeth.

It was haircut day in the Harrison household - a first for Henry. (If you don't count the time that Uncle Chelle and I took the clippers to Henry's two-toned baby mullet in the Nordstrom's mother's room!)  He did great.  The stylist put in an animal video and Henry was hooked.  (He has this slack-jawed, glazed- over look in ALL the photos.)  He only fussed when she blocked his view of the tv.

Thank You Vacuum Monkey!

Jack is  HUGE fan of the Curious George cartoons on PBS.   Although we don't want him to become a tv junkie, this is such a cute show and Jack is clearly learning from it.  He will often reference things that he has seen - "George does that!"  "This is like George!"  He has his favorite episodes and likes to watch them over and over  (thank goodness for DVR).  One of his current favorites is "the vacuum one" where  George cleans up the city with his own personal Dirt Dragon vacuum.  Jack has always been a fan of vacuums but now he is a pro, which times perfectly with Henry's ever-increasing cheerio throwing and food-dropping experiments.  Thank you Vacuum Monkey!
